Janet Thomas Tims of Ironton passed away peacefully at home with her daughters present on Nov. 4, 2015.  She was 71.
She was born in Ironton,  on Dec. 24, 1943, to the late Martin Kenneth and Dorothy (Bartlow) Thomas.
As the only child of a career Officer in the United States Navy, Janet lived several places growing up, including Great Lakes, IL, Midway Island, HI, and Saipan. Those childhood adventures sparked a life-long love of travel and seeing new places.
She graduated from Ironton High School before going on to Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis.
In 1962, Janet married Jacob Russell Tims of Ironton, and they had two daughters together, Susan Elizabeth and Cynthia Kay. Their union later ended in divorce.
Janet raised her daughters in Dallas, TX, where she resided more than 40 years.
In 1977, Janet returned to nurses’ training, earned her Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in Nursing, and became a Registered Nurse in 1980.
Janet worked for Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas until 2000. While there, she excelled as an Emergency Room nurse for 15 years of her 20-year career.
Janet retired and moved back to Ironton in 2007. She had a passion for figure skating, loved to travel, read, watch mystery shows, collect unique recipes, and she actively pursued artistic projects on her computer.
Janet is survived by her daughters, Suzy Tims and Cindy Tims, a host of cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Janet’s oldest daughter, Suzy, loyally cared for her the last 10 years of her life. Janet’s youngest daughter, Cindy, also provided assistance for Janet’s care in the last few months before her passing.
Interment will be a private service held at Arcadia Valley Memorial Park in Arcadia, officiated by Richard Wiskus, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Psoriasis Foundation in Portland, OR, or Gentiva Hospice of Farmington.
