Alonzo “Lon” Edgar Whited

Alonzo “Lon” Edgar Whited of Ironton passed away in Farmington on November 15, 2015.  He was 91.
Lon was born July 27, 1924 in Ironton to the late Harve and Zanoba Raines Whited.
In 1944, Lon was united in marriage to Mildred Maxine Mercer, who preceded him in death in 1983, and to this union, seven children were born.
On January 31, 1986 Lon was united in marriage to Ona Jewel Bain, who survives.
Lon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred; an infant son, Lon Richard Whited; a son, Roy Denver Whited; his brothers, Delbert, Everette, Howard “Sonny,”; his sisters, Eula Marler and Francis Dunbar; and a step-daughter, Jeanett Brockes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ona; five children, Melvin Whited and wife Linda Faye, Paul Daniel Whited, Roberta Crider and husband Dan, James Whited and wife Kathy, Stanley Whited and wife Lucretia; five step-children, Kenneth Brockes, Donna Bennett, Pattie Jones, David Brockes, and Mona Stallins; 25 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of other loving family members and friends.
Lon was drafted to the United States Army in 1942, and served his country with pride and honor during World War II and the Korean War. He also supported his family by working as a logger for many years.
Lon was a faithful member of the Ironton First Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral services for Lon were held on Thursday, November 19, at 11 a.m. at the Cole Family Funeral Home. The family welcomed friends for visitation on Wednesday, November 18, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cole Family Funeral Home. Interment was in Cove Cemetery following the funeral service.
