Letter to the Editor - Sick to My Stomach

Dear Editor,

When I was in the Army, I was a member of President Johnson’s Honor Guard. As such, I came into contact with a lot of senators, congressmen, politicians, and also buried a lot of dead soldiers. Never during any of these events have I ever witnessed anything like just happened with Trump.

As a sign of disrespect for John McCain, he deliberately took the flag down from the White House, while Congress was flying theirs at half-staff.  Only the lowest of the low would do something like that.  George Bush, Sr., another true American hero, has also said that he doesn’t want Trump around at his funeral.

Yet through it all, I still see my fellow veterans standing at ceremonies and saluting Trump.  It makes me sick to my stomach.  I could never stand and salute Trump.

I have today canceled my membership in the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  I could not now be a part of any organization that salutes Donald Trump.

If you can salute this spoiled little rich brat, whose father got him five deferments during Vietnam because he had five different “bone spurs,” then good for you, but I will never do it.

Only in America can you see combat veterans living in cardboard boxes and a draft dodger living in the White House.
