Alva Gene Marler

Alva Gene Marler of Ironton passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.  He was 86.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1931 in Pilot Knob, a son of the late Oscar Elbert and Lola Mae Parton Marler.

On Feb. 2, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Phegley Marler, who survives. To this union four children were born, James and wife Shirley Marler of Arcadia, Dennis Marler of Fredericktown, Kevin Marler of Ironton, and Kathy Pollock of Parkhills.

Also surviving are one sister, June Mayes of Pilot Knob; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding Gene in rest were his parents; two grandchildren, Mendy and Joseph (JD); one son-in-law, Dan Pollock; his sisters, Helen, Nelda, Patsy; and his brothers, Paul, Kenneth, Dale, Edward and Donald.

Gene, as everyone knew him, graduated from Ironton High School. He served his nation during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy with two tours in Korea.

He worked in the mining/ construction industry before retiring.

He was a member of the Stouts Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at noon on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at the Stouts Creek Baptist Church. A visitation was held at the church starting at 10 a.m. Pastor Mike Hagerty officiated the funeral services. Interment was in Woodlawn cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Stouts Creek Baptist Church.
