Scouts hold Flag Retirement Ceremony

Members of Boy Scout Troop 403 and Cub Scout Pack 403 incinerate worn-out U.S. flags, part of a formal flag retirement ceremony held on Sunday, September 30 at the Arcadia Valley Sports Complex. The traditional ceremony is a respectful way to dispose of flags that have become too worn and tattered to display.  The scouts retired some 300 flags provided by the community, first cutting the flags into four pieces, incinerating the blue star field first before the red and white stripes. The ashes are then buried. Scoutmaster Jeremy Medley oversaw the ceremony.
