Gill wins music award

Stone Gill

Stone Gill, a 7th grader at Arcadia Valley Middle School, has earned a first-place award in the University of Missouri-Columbia’s New Music Initiative’s annual competition, Creating Original Music Project (COMP). COMP is a statewide competition that recognizes Missouri students (K-12) who compose original works in a variety of musical styles.

Winning composers and their schools are awarded cash prizes. This year, as a 7th grader, he won 1st place in the popular music division. He will be awarded $500 for himself and $1000 for the Arcadia Valley Middle School music program.  Stone will perform his song live at the University of Missouri-Columbia on April 13.

When Stone was in 5th grade, he placed 3rd in the instrumental elementary division winning $200 for himself and $500 for Arcadia Valley Middle School’s music program. As a 6th grader, he placed second with a pop rap song that he composed and performed. He won $400 for himself and $750 for AVMS music.

Stone is the son of Allison and Greg Gill. His music teacher is Charles Lee.
