James Ryan

James Lawrence Ryan, Jr. of Annapolis passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019.  He was 92.

James was born on Jan. 25, 1927 in Akron, OH, a son of the late James and Adra Virginia Wilhelm Ryan.

His step-father, Leonard Elvin King, also preceded him in death.

On Dec. 30 1948, he was united in marriage to Etta Mearl Bone, who preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 1994.

To this union was born eight children, Lora Price and husband Keith of Berkley, MI, Brad Ryan and wife Sharon of Rochester, MI, Craig Ryan of Ironton, Eve Schuman and husband Gary of Waterford, MI, Keith Ryan and wife Linda of Goodrich, MI, Tracy Ryan and wife Mary of Sykesville, MD, Rachelle Truss and husband Eric of Auburn Hills, MI, and a daughter Rennae Ryan, who preceded him in death.

On Jan. 1, 2000, he married Betsy Springer, who survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Katherine Barrick, and three brothers, Lyle Ryan, Louis King and William Albert Ryan.

Other survivors include a brother, Worley King of VA, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and friends.

James received his BS in Horiculture from Michigan State University.

He worked as a weapons system manager for the United States Army, and during WWII he served in the United States Navy.

He was a member of the DeSoto Church of Christ and attended the Ironton and Flat River Church of Christ.

He loved his family, fishing, his garden and selling produce at the Ironton Farmers Market.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday July 3, at 1 p.m. from Cole Family Funeral Home with Don Bahr officiating.

There will be a celebration of life held in Rochester, MI on July 9 from Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester with interment in Christian Memorial Cemetery West.
