Glenn D. Witcher

Glenn Witcher

Glenn D. Witcher of Hot Springs, AR, formerly of Ironton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019. He was 87.

He was born on May 13, 1931, in Corning, AR, the son of James Herbert Witcher and Sylvia Athlea Rapert Witcher.

On July 22, 1950,  he married Nelma Lee, who preceded him in death on Dec. 21, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rick Witcher, his parents, and his brother, Joe Witcher.

Glenn retired from Entergy where he was a district manager. After he retired, he worked as a consultant for Union Electric. Glenn enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his family. He also volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Crossgate Church Food Pantry.

Shirley A. Occhino Guertin Thomas

Shirley Thomas

Shirley A. Occhino Guertin Thomas of Ironton passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2019. She was 82.

She was born on Sept. 26, 1936 in Oswego, NY, the daughter of the late Murphy and Evelyn O’Brien Occhino.

On Oct. 12, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to John R. Guertin, who proceeded her in death on April 14, 2012.

To this union seven children were born, Denise (David) Bates of Ironton,  Debra A. (Joel III) Gordon of Desloge, John R. (Mary Memhardt) Guertin, Jr. of Ferrum, VA, Diane Sweeney of Ironton,  Brian (Kathleen Burke) Guertin of Marshall, VA, the late Kevin Guertin of Cornelia, GA, and Mark Guertin of Ironton.

On February 10, 1978, Shirley was united in marriage to Roy G. Thomas who proceeded her in death on April 23, 2002.

From this union Shirley’s stepchildren are Carson (Linda) Thomas, Roger (Sharon) Thomas, Brenda (Charles) Brooks, Linda (Scott) Freeman.

James Alfred Sackett

James Sackett

James Alfred Sackett of Russell, AR, died on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 at his home.  He was 87.

He was born on March 3, 1931 in Great Bend, PA, to the late Donald and Maddie Louise (Preston) Sacket.

James was a plant manager for Quick Point for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and he especially loved to go square dancing with his wife; they traveled all over the state and out of state to different dance halls.

James served in the Army and Marine Corp and was a Korean War Veteran. He also was a long time member of the Russell Baptist Church.

Carol Sue Williams

Carol Sue Williams

Carol Sue Williams of Ironton passed away on Jan. 23, 2019 in Des Peres. She was 75.

Carol was born on July 10, 1943 in Poplar Bluff, the daughter of the late Marshall “Bud” and Ruby (Wray) Arnold.

On March 16, 1968, she was united in marriage to Jack Delano Williams, who survives.

To this union one son was born, James Williams (Chi) of Odessa, DE.  Carol is also survived by three grandchildren, Joshua, Cristal, and Samuel Ho of Odessa DE; her sister, Marsha Nicholson of Ste. Genevieve; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her grandson, Solomon Ho.

Carol was a 1962 graduate of Cape Central High School.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Farmington.

Kay Ruth Wilson

Kay Wilson

Kay Ruth Wilson of Doe Run passed away on Jan. 7, 2019 at her residence. She was 76.

She was born on July 12, 1942 in Memphis, TN, the daughter of the late James and Ruth (Riggs) Jerden.

On March 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to Joseph Wilson, Sr., who preceded her in death on April 3, 2009.

To this union four children were born, Deborah Pryor of Cherryville, Denise Sikes and husband Richard of Ironton,  Joseph Wilson, Jr. and wife Jill of Doe Run, and Charity Murphy, who preceded her in death.  Kay is also survived by one sister, Joyce Snyder of Jonesboro, AR, nine grandchildren, and 14 great- grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and daughter, Kay was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Jerden, Bobbie Jean Duncan, and Wilma Best; her brother, Kenneth Jerden; and son-in-law, Dennis Pryor.

Charles Everett ‘Bud’ Warren

Bud Warren

Charles Everett Warren, known to most as “Bud”, passed away at his residence on Jan. 16, 2019. He was 76.

He was born on March 28, 1942 in Chloride, the son of the late Charles William and Rosetta (Womack) Warren.

On June 2, 1962, he was united in marriage to Donna Maye Brewer, who survives. To this union five children were born, Charles “Lenny” Warren, Archie Warren and wife, Sarah, Richard and wife Angie, and Paul and wife, Pamela, all of Annapolis.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Deonna Warren.

Bud is survived by four sisters, Juanita McDowell of Richland, Margaret Orrick of Fredericktown, Kathy Birkhead of Raymondville, and Dorothy Sutton of Arkansas; his brother-in-law, Kent Miller of Dixon; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren (with one more on the way), and three great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Inez Pierson

Inez Pierson

Inez Berneice Pierson of Owassa, OK, passed away on Jan. 11, 2019. She was 94.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1924 in Annapolis, the daughter of the late Acie and Lena Bell (Joines) Pennington.

On October 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Norman Pierson who preceded her in death on May 21, 1999.  To this union two children were born, Rita Thornton of Owasso, OK, and Gary Pierson and wife, Susan Roth of Auburn, WA.

Inez is also survived by two grandchildren, Scott Thornton and wife, Kathy of Owasso, OK, and Tiffany Thornton of Durant, OK; two step-granddaughters, Greta Roth of Issaqua, WA, and Andria Roth of Seattle, WA; four great-grandchildren, Skylar Stinnett of Houston, TX, Natalie Thornton of Owasso, OK, Marshall Hatch of Durant, OK, and Peyton Roth-Miller of Issaqua, WA; two brothers, C. Berlin Pennington of Cape Girardeau and Aurlin Pennington of Vulcan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Guy Stevenson

Guy Stevenson

Guy Stevenson of Vulcan  passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Parkland Medical Center in Farmington. He was 89.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1929, in Vulcan, to Thomas and Marie (Charlton) Stevenson.

Guy was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He married Patricia Patterson on April 29, 1950. He served two terms as the Iron County Southern Road Commissioner. He served for many years as a devoted Deacon at Vulcan Assembly of God Church. He retired from the Missouri State Department of Revenue. He served as Sheriff of Piedmont, MO, in the 1960s. Guy also owned and sold many businesses and land throughout his life. However, his proudest professional accomplishment was when he was a Bill Monroe Bluegrass Boy in the 1970s.

Guy was the oldest of 12 children and with Patricia’s help, they provided a loving home for seven of his brothers and sisters.

Craig Dirke McCombs

Craig Dirke McCombs of Salina, KS formally  of Ironton, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019. He was 37.

Dirke was born on Dec. 31, 1981 in McComb, IL, a son  of Craig Robert McCombs and Mary Jane Titus, who survive.

Also surviving are four children, Abbigail, Lucas, June, and Bradley McCombs; three brothers, James “JR” McCombs (Sarah Knapp), Jacob (Tammy) McCombs, and a stepbrother Kevin Titus; a stepsister, Kayla (Jordan) Brouwer; his stepfather, Rick Titus; his grandfather, Robert Lee “Jake” McCombs; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Dirke was preceded in death by three grandparents, Walter and Shirley Livingston, and Phylis McCombs.

Shari R. Orrick

Shari R. Orrick of De Soto died on Monday, January 7, 2019. She was 41.

Mrs. Orrick was a police officer in Pine Lawn and Olympian Village.

She was born on June 10, 1977, in Fitchburg, MA, the daughter of Terry Chaffee-Veroneau of Worcester, MA, and the late Timothy Gorman.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Orrick of De Soto; her parents, Sharon (Dickey) and Alan G. Harris of Arcadia; a daughter, Erin Lynn Riley (Cory) Logsdon; a son, Joseph Wyatt Pinson; two stepdaughters, Amelia Lee Orrick and Melissa Ann Orrick; two sisters, Krista (Mark) Meinders of Lake Winnebago and Alisha (Waylon) Cavinder of Springfield; and three nieces, Jordyn, Ashtyn and Claire.
