Johnny Lee Reagan

Johnny Lee Reagan

Johnny Lee Reagan of Murray, KY passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was 92.

Visitation was held from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home in Murray, KY.

Visitation resumed at the First Christian Church in Murray.

The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018 at First Christian Church with Rev. Ruth Ragovin officiating.

Burial followed in the Murray City Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Christian Church Choir, 111 N. 5th St., Murray, KY 42017, or Murray State Baseball, c/o Stan Skirka, Stewart Stadium Room 217, Murray, KY 42017.

William “Bill” Austin Boyd

Bill Boyd

William “Bill” Austin Boyd of Ironton passed away on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018. He was 81.

Bill was born on Oct. 4, 1937 in Potosi, a son of the late William, Sr. and Leona Byrd Boyd.

On Feb. 5, 1977, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Branch Boyd, who survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Jacqulyn Jones of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Nathan (Pamela) Boyd of St. Louis, Ollie (Donna) Boyd of St. Louis, and Danny Boyd of Ironton; one grandchild; and a host of loving family and friends.

Preceding Bill in rest were his parents; one brother, Samuel Aaron Boyd; and one sister, Leanna Mae Bollinger.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 21, 2018 at 1 p.m. from the Cole family chapel. A visitation period was held prior to the service at 11 a.m.

Rev. Ollie Boyd officiated the funeral services. Interment was in Parkview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Memorials are deeply appreciated and may be made to the Parkview Cemetery.

Ruth Anna Thomson

Ruth Anna Thomson

Ruth Anna Thomson of Ironton passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018 at her residence. She was 88.

Ruth  Anna was born on Oct. 24, 1930 in Iron Mountain to the late Henry and Hope (Ely) William.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold F. “Whitey” Gunning, her sister, Selina Boatright, and her daughter-in-law, Leslie Denise Gunning.

Ruth Anna was self-employed as a hairdresser in the community for many years. She also worked at the Farmington Walmart.

Ruth Anna was a former active member of the Flat River Christian Church. She most recently attended the Community Christian Church in Farmington.

She was a wonderful cook, was a very caring person and loved her family. She will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Kathy Jean Norris

Kathy Norris

Kathy Jean Norris of Bonne Terre, formerly of the Arcadia Valley, passed away on Dec. 6, 2018 at her home. She was 73.

Kathy was born on April 28, 1945 in Silverdale, a daughter of the late Charles and Lois Brown Ridings.

On July 15, 2006 she was united in marriage to Dennis Norris, who survives.

Other survivors include her daughter, Shawn Barton of Springfield; a step-son, Shannon Norris and wife Melissa of Bonne Terre; one sister, Shirley Neuman of Pilot Knob; a niece, Lucretia Whited and husband Stan of Arcadia; two great-nieces, Brittany Stinson, and Bethany Whited; two grandchildren, Avery and Kinley Norris; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Ridings, and a sister, Daronda Ridings.

She graduated from Arbyrd High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Education at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.

Elizabeth ‘Joy’ Smith

Joy Smith

Elizabeth “Joy” Smith, of O’Fallon, formerly of Des Arc, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018.  She was 88.

Joy was born in Annapolis, on April 18, 1930 to the late Roy and Opal (Pond) Worley.

Joy married Avery L. Smith on Feb. 25, 1952 and they were blessed with two children.

She was a devoted wife and mother. Joy was a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years, was a life member of the Missouri State Teachers Association, and a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Saint Louis.

Joy worked as a teacher in the Normandy School District and retired after 30 years of teaching. She taught at Des Arc school before moving to the St. Louis area. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Most of all, Joy loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William “Bill” Worley.

Mildred M. Hill

Mildred Hill

Mildred  M. Hill of Advance, formerly of Piedmont, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, at Oakdale Care Center in Poplar Bluff. She was 80.

Mildred was born on Dec. 10, 1937, in Des Arc to parents Goldsmith and Laura (Mann) Middleton.

On July 22, 1955 Mildred married Thomas Hill and to this union, three children were born.

Mildred was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant everything to her. She was an avid reader, enjoyed flowers and loved babies. She was actively involved in the upbringing of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband of 32 years; brothers, Robert Middleton, Russell Middleton, William Middleton; sisters, Maxine Mitchell, Helen Stout, Doris McFadden, Alma Scarbrough, Lois Ruble; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Leah Hornbostel.

Vernon ‘Turnip’ Sutton

Vernon Sutton

Vernon “Turnip” Sutton of Poplar Bluff, formerly of Annapolis, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was 85.

He was born on Aug. 10, 1933 in Lesterville, to parents Raymond and Jessie (Weltie) Sutton.

Vernon married Alice Jane Talley on March 31, 1956, and to this union one son was born.

Vernon enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He proudly served in the Army for two years.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Katherine Middleton and Juanita Middleton.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; son, Duane Sutton of Poplar Bluff; sisters, Anna Lou Midkiff and husband Earl of Piedmont, Verlina Middleton and husband Doyle of Piedmont, and Faith Hamilton and husband Sam of Springfield.

Wilma M. Burroughs

Wilma M. Burroughs

Wilma M. Burroughs passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2018 at the Meadowbrook Care Facility in Pilot Knob.  She was 87.

Wilma was born on July 17, 1931 on Goose Creek, the daughter of the late Allen and Alpha (Casey) McNail.

She was united in marriage to Elmer Warner on July 30, 1949 in Annapolis. To this union two children were born.

Elmer preceded her in death on October 8, 1970.

On October 18, 1974, Wilma was united in marriage to Paul Burroughs in Redford. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1997.

Wilma was a graduate of Centerville High School where she later worked as a secretary for the Centerville School District for 41 years.

She was a member of the Reynolds County Fair Board, the Ambulance Board, and the Hospital Board.

Wilma was a wonderful woman loved by many; she was a proud resident and a wonderful addition to the Reynolds County Community.

Kym Cowins

Kym Renae Jones Cowins of Ironton passed away at her home.  She was 57.

She was born in Granite City, IL on Sept. 12, 1961 to Larry Jones and the late Shelly Trigg Bakken.

On July 11, 2013, Kym was united in marriage to James Cowins who survives. Also surviving are her father and stepmother, Larry and Pat Jones of Arcadia; a granddaughter, Mercedes Kessler of St. Louis; a step-daughter, Michelle Jamese Cowins of St. Louis;  three brothers, Monty Jones of North Carolina, Larry Jones,  Jr. and wife Jamie of Ironton, and Tommy Brogan and wife Brandi of Ironton; one sister, Kathy Jones of Ironton; a grandmother, Evelyn Trigg of Alton, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family members and loving friends.

Kym was preceded in death by her mother Shelly Bakken; one daughter, Miranda Foster Powell; a granddaughter, Gracee Foster; and her stepfather, Chuck Bakken.

Patricia Ellen Pauley

Patricia Ellen Pauley of Middlebrook passed away on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at her residence. She was 86.

She was born on Aug.18, 1932 in Atlantic, IA, the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Lang) Lambert.
