Sandra Kay Sullivan

Sandra Kay Sullivan

Sandra Kay Sullivan passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was 73.
She was born Oct. 9, 1942 in Centerville and lived most of her life in Iron County. She worked for many years as a cook and waitress and was a member of the Free Spirit General Baptist Church near Annapolis.
Sandy was married to James C. Sullivan on Aug. 4, 1959 at Annapolis and he passed away Nov. 3, 1969.
Also preceding her in death was her father, Alvin “Spike” Pierson and one sister, Treva Pierson.
Survivors include her mother, Nadine Pierson, of Annapolis; two children, Bradley Sullivan of Annapolis,  and Holly Ferguson and her husband James of Piedmont; two brothers, Leon Setzer of Maryland Heights and Eric Pierson of Annapolis; and three sisters, Karen Brawley of Annapolis, Lela Pierson of Annapolis, Elaine Pierson of Annapolis.

Thomas Dale Whited

Thomas Dale Whited

Thomas Dale Whited of New Haven, formerly of Ironton, passed away March 28, 2016 in Cedar Hill.  He was 64.
 He was born July 12, 1951 in Ironton, a son of the late Monroe and Annie Harbison Whited.
Surviving are sisters, Nancy Peek and husband Bob of Lake Sherwood, Peggy Nelson of Columbia, IL, Kathryne McMurtry and husband Dave of Sallisaw, OK, and Sharon Gills and husband Sony of Leslie; one brother, James Whited and wife Paula of Sullivan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Ronnie Whited; two sisters, Betty Whited and Jo Ann Stenger; one niece, Jane O’Malley Theim; one nephew, Dennis Nelson; and two brothers-in-law, Shorty Nelson and Ron Stenger.
Thomas was a 1969 graduate of Ironton High School.

Betty Jane Eggers

Betty Jane Eggers (nee Bailey) of Washington, formerly of Bismarck, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2016. She was 90
Betty was born on Dec. 30, 1925 in Williamsport, PA to William Bailey and Anna Shriner Bailey.
After high school graduation, Betty worked in the USO with her sister, Margaret during WWII. She met her husband, Robert “Bob” O. Eggers at a roller rink while he was stationed close by and they were married July 25, 1945 in Williamsport, PA.
In 1952, they moved back to Bob’s home to take over the family oil company, Texaco, and Betty became the bookkeeper. She was a member of the Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron in Bismarck. Betty was of the Methodist faith. Her hobbies were ceramics and traveling. Bob and Betty lived nearly 20 years in Brownsville, TX after retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; and sister, Margaret Barry.

Donald Leon “Pete” Wakefield, Sr.

Donald Leon “Pete” Wakefield, Sr. passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Clark’s Mountain Nursing Center in Piedmont. He was 69.
Pete was born at Low Wassie on Feb. 1, 1947 to Thomas Wakefield and Clara (Collins) Wakefield.  
He was united in marriage to Margaret Gardner, and during their 47 years of marriage two sons were born, Donnie Wakefield and Greg Wakefield.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Clara Wakefield; three sisters, Wilma, Evelyn, and Pauline; and two brothers, Roy and Raymond.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one brother, Edmond Wakefield; his two sons, Donnie and Greg; four grandchildren, Beth, Kyle, Brock, and Aiden; two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Easton; and many nieces and nephews.
Pete served in the United States Army, and after that service, dedicated his life to education.  He spent 30 years as a teacher, while also serving as a coach for 23 years, and driving a bus for 35 years.

Robert Ray Poinsett

Robert Ray Poinsett of Arcadia passed away on March 23, 2016 in his home. He was 67.
He was born on May 28, 1948 in Yakima, WA, the son of the late Asa and Mazel (Pennington) Poinsett.
On Jan. 5, 1973, he was united in marriage to Mary Lee Dement.  To this union two children were born, William Sean Poinsett of Bismarck and Elizabeth Henson and husband Rone of Pilot Knob.  
Robert is survived by two grandchildren, Wyatt and Hannah Henson; a brother, Charles Poinsett and wife, Patti of Farmington; three sisters, Joann Francis and husband, Ben of Pilot Knob, and Agnes Lashley and husband, Buzz of Pilot Knob, and Bonnie Hayes and husband, J.R. of Lake Hanna; as well as a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.
Robert served his country with pride in the United States Navy.  He was a graduate of Ironton High School.  He retired as a Corrections Officer for the Missouri Department of Corrections at the Farmington Prison.

Helen Dorothy Skaggs

Helen Dorothy Skaggs

Helen Dorothy Skaggs, formerly of Ironton, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.  She was 90.
She was born Feb. 21, 1926 in Iron Mountain, to the late Edward and Olinda Ruh Weiss.
On July 23, 1945, Helen was united in marriage to Jesse Skaggs, who survives. To this union two children were born.
Helen is survived by her husband, Jesse; a son, James Skaggs and wife Joyce of Ironton; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Georgia Campbell; a son-in-law, Richard Campbell; and two brothers, Lawrence Weiss, and Clarence Weiss.
Helen worked for many years as a cook for Bismarck Schools, she was a faithful member of the Iron Mountain Assembly of God Church, she loved to spend time fishing, and loved and cared for her family.

Robert Lyman McKee

Robert Lyman McKee passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016. He was 84.
He was married to Charlene Mardel Griffe, who precedes him in death.
Robert was born Oct. 8, 1931 in Ironton, a son of Robert and Laura Bell McKee.
Robert is survived by seven children, Charles and wife Brenda McKee of Woodbridge, VA, Mark and Mary Ann McKee Turner of Pilot Knob,  Mary Beth McKee Smith and husband Mark of DeSoto, Terrance McKee of San Antonio, TX, Laura McKee McLean and husband Scot of Almont, MI, Steven McKee of DeSoto, and Mark and wife Laura McKee of Hillsboro; one Brother; Don McKee and wife Jean McKee of St. Charles; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
Preceding Robert in death were his wife, Charlene McKee; his father, Robert and mother, Laura McKee; two sisters, Betty McDowell and Barbara McKee.
On April 20, 1951, Robert served his country proudly in the United States Navy.

James E. Queen

James E. Queen

James E. Queen (Jim), of Adolphus, KY, died at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky, surrounded by his family.  He was 66.
Jim was born on July 27, 1949 in Ironton, the son of the late Harvey Queen and Rosalie (Reed) Fox, who survives.
Jim was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 25 years. He served as a ministerial servant and attended the Kingdom Hall in Lafayette, TN.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing guitar, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Yolanda Queen; seven children, Valerie (Joe) Armfield of Scottsville, KY, Brian Cone of St. Louis, Anthony (Diana) Queen of Lafayette, TN, Robert (Jennifer) Queen of Leadwood, Robin (Adrian) Funk of Louisville, KY, Holly (Sean) Jones of Ashland City, TN, Gabrielle Roberts of Scottsville, KY; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
