Gerald Howard Johnson

Gerald Howard Johnson

Gerald Howard Johnson of Annapolis passed away on Aug. 17, 2018 in St. Louis. He was 82.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1935 in Annapolis, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Irene Risher Johnson, and Tessie Johnson.

On May 4, 1957 he was united in marriage to Gayle Gallaher, who survives.

To this union was born two children, Michael Lynn Johnson and wife Karen, and Cheryl Elaine Casteel and husband Jeff, both of Annapolis.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Helbert and Pete Johnson; two sisters, Mable Jeffreys and Barbara Ann Skaggs; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Irene, his step mother Tessie, and a grandson Michael Christopher Johnson.

Gerald retired as Foreman with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in the Annapolis facility after many years of service.

Walter Lee “Walt” Pruitt

Walter Lee “Walt” Pruitt

Walter Lee “Walt” Pruitt passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, Aug 2, 2018, surrounded by his wife, Laura, and four children. He was 89.

Walter was the owner /manager of World Finance Company on Big Bend Blvd. for over 50 years and was a proud Korean War veteran.

He loved quail and pheasant hunting with annual trips to Mitchell, SD

His favorite pastimes included watching his dogs hunt and feeding fish at the ponds on the family farm.

He was married to Esther Pruitt for 19 years before her death in 1975. He was married to Laura Pruitt (nee Wisdom) for over 32 years and she survives.

Walter is also survived by his children, LeeAnn Pruitt, Wallis Kay Summers, John (Nan) Pruitt, David (Tracy) Starn; his English Setters, Sue and Sugar; in addition to six grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins who were like siblings.

Lois Manita Wilkerson

Lois Manita Wilkerson

Lois Manita Wilkerson of Ironton passed away on Aug. 1, 2018 at The Baptist Home in Arcadia.  She was 94.

She was born on Jan. 3, 1924 in Alton, the daughter of the late Lat Miller and Maude Addie Caroline (Waller) Williams.

On Jan. 5, 1942, she was united in marriage to Osby Lee Wilkerson, who preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2014.

To this union two children were born, Karen Harter of St. Louis, and Jerry Lee Wilkerson, who preceded her in death.

Lois is also survived by four grandchildren, Jeff Harter, Kevin Harter, Lisa Miller, and Stacy Marzen; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Lois was also preceded in death by her brother, Dorwin Lavon Williams, and her great grandson, Drew Williams Marzen.   

Lois was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ironton.  She participated in many church activities including the Priscilla Sunday School class and Vacation Bible School.

Enid Elnora Ehlert

Enid Elnora Ehlert passed away on Aug. 14, 2018 in Pilot Knob. She was 90.

She was born on April 3, 1928, in Poplar Bluff, daughter of the late Walter Oscar and Hattie (Martin) Uebelein.

She was united in marriage on June 10, 1949 to Alfred William Ehlert, who preceded her in death.

Enid is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Lynn and Clyde Wayne Hughes of Pilot Knob; her son, Rick William Ehlert (Suni) of St. Louis; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arthur and Marlene Ehlert, of Chesterfield; a nephew, Kurt (Sabra) Ehlert of Foristell; a first cousin, John (Pat) Uebelein of Poplar Bluff; a first cousin Charles (Dorothy) Uebelein of Waterloo, IL; and the mother of her grandchildren, Judy Ehlert of O’Fallon.

Carolyn Sue Robinson

Carolyn Sue Robinson of Ironton passed away on Friday, Aug. 9, 2018 at her home near Ironton with her loving family around her. She was 77,

She was born on Dec. 13, 1940 in St. Louis, a daughter of the late Warren and Zora Fears Piper.

On May 11, 1957, she was united in marriage to Harold Junior Robinson, who preceded her in death on June 12, 2006.

To this union was born three children, Diana Hedgecock, Debby Robinson, and Danny Robinson, all of Ironton. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Crystal Gormley, Jennifer Hopper, and Billy Hill; 13 great- grandchildren; a brother, Charles; two sisters, Wanda, and Virginia; and a special niece, Tonya.

She was preceded in death by one sister, JoAnn.

Sue, as she was known, was the matriarch of her family. She loved spending time with her family and loved her humming birds.

Sue was a long-time member and past President of the Women’s Auxiliary.

James Thormod Naug

James Thormod Naug passed away on Wednesday Aug. 1, 2018 at his home in Athens, TX. He was 52.

Jamie was born in St. Louis, the son of Tom Naug and Cheri Joan DeGonia Lee.

He lived most of his life in Texas, but commonly referred to his home as Ironton.

Jamie was a passionate man who loved spending quality time with his daughter, Kaleigh. His greatest and most fulfilling accomplishment was being her father. He was extremely loving and proud of Kaleigh and her sister Marissa Mayes.

In his spare time, he enjoyed being with his family and friends. He knew no stranger and had a story and joke for everyone.

Jamie is survived by his daughter Kaleigh of Eustace, TX, and her sister Marissa Mayes; his mother, Cheri Joan DeGonia Lee; one sister, Tonia Naug; one brother, Michael Naug and wife Starla Naug; his loving niece, Brianna Naug; two nephews, Blaise Naug, Teagan Minks; and many friends.

Kenneth Grigery

Kenneth Joy Grigery, Sr. of Des Arc passed away in Farmington on Saturday, July 21, 2018. He was 87.

Kenneth was born on Sept. 9, 1930 in Piedmont, Missouri the son of the late Willis Jackson and Ruth Marie (Mann) Grigery.

On Feb. 14, 1953, Kenneth was united in marriage to Doris Jean Parton, who preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2007.

He is survived by his five loving children, Sandra Milam and husband, Bill of Belgrade, Kenneth Grigery and wife, Brandy of Farmington, Brenda Hamilton of Ironton, James Grigery and wife, Rhonda of Des Arc, and Kimberly Davis and husband, Terry of Piedmont.

Kenneth is also survived by his sister, Loretta Goodman of Kansas City; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Grigery.

Robert Carty

Robert Lee Carty of Annapolis passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at his residence. He was 91.

He was born on June 30, 1927 in Black, the son of the late Roy Lee Henson and Leora Pearl Carty.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lucy Louise Barton, whom he married on January 27, 1990.

Also surviving are his children, Ronnie Carty and wife, Connie of Belleview, Carol Herbst and husband, Douglas of Annapolis, Donald Artinger and wife, Pam of Cahokia, IL, Debra Artinger of Ironton; his sister, Bonnie Crocker of Pilot Knob; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta Mae Carty; his daughter, Patricia Gehrs; and two sisters, Margaret Harbison and Genevieve Moyer.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Sharon Elizabeth James

Sharon Elizabeth James passed away on Wednesday, July 18 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis. She was 72.

She was born on April 13, 1946 at St. Louis, the daughter of Henry Buthe and Dorine (Doerrer) Buthe.

Sharon was a homemaker and was of the Catholic faith.

She married Billy T. James on Feb. 12, 1962 in Brookline, IL and he passed away on April 10, 2005.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Henry and Dorine Buthe; and her son, Russell James.

Survivors include her sister, Kathy Ferguson and her husband Randy, of Piedmont; her niece and nephew, who she considered her grandchildren, Shannan and Justin Whitfield, of North Carolina, Nicholas and Lakota Ferguson and their children Emma and Camden, of Pennsylvania; her maternal aunt, Laverne Buthe; and many cousins and a close circle of friends.

She will be very deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Orphia Opal Boren

Orphia Opal Boren

Orphia Opal Boren, formerly of Arcadia, passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2018 in Festus. She was 92.

She was born on July 8, 1926, the daughter of the late William and Jeanette (Henry) Golden.

On Oct. 26, 1946, she was united in marriage to George Edward Boren, who preceded her in death on May 28, 2004.

To this union five children were born, Jeanetta Cochran and husband, Norman of Ironton, Ronald Boren and wife, Leslie of Pilot Knob, Daniel Boren, Richard Boren and Paula Gordon, who all preceded her in death; two grandsons, Jeremy Gordon and Jason Gordon; and granddaughter, Melissa Vassel. The grandchildren spent a lot of time in Orphia’s home and she treated them as her own.

Orphia is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, several great- great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
