Thelma Delorce Harrison

Thelma Harrison

Thelma Delorce Harrison of Doe Run passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018.   She was 82.

She was born March 11, 1936 in St. Louis to the late Harry and Pauline Bond Harrison.

Thelma is survived by two brothers, Richard (Cecilia) Harrison of Arnold, and Ronald Harrison of Key West, FL; two sisters, Doris (Ray) Rushing of Valdosa, GA, and JoAnn (Al) Reyer of Jacksonville, NC; and many other family members and friends.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, William (who passed in infancy), James, Leo, and Leon; and three sisters, Lucille Brumitt, Ruby Meyer, and Evelyn Harrison.

A memorial service was held to celebrate Thelma’s life on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at 1 p.m. from the Cole Family Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. Interment followed the services in the K of P Cemetery in Ironton.

Glenda Hall

Glenda Hall

Delsie Glenda Jones Hall passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.  She was 90.

She was born on March 15, 1928, in Pilot Knob, a daughter of the late Everett and Goldie Jones.

Glenda married Forrest Hall on March 28, 1958 and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage before he passed away in 2014.

She is survived by her five children, Yvonne (Allen) Bedwell, Tim (Kim) Hall, Lisa Hall, Tina (Bob) Lamb, and Amy (Jason) Langer; six grandchildren, Carmen Noack, Cortney Frosch, Vanessa Nichols, Kyle Hovey, and Aria and Jaden Langer; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and all of her siblings - Ethel Fisher, Raymond, Jehu, and Glen Jones.

Alva Gene Marler

Alva Gene Marler

Alva Gene Marler of Ironton passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018.  He was 86.

He was born on Oct. 18, 1931 in Pilot Knob, a son of the late Oscar Elbert and Lola Mae Parton Marler.

On Feb. 2, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Phegley Marler, who survives. To this union four children were born, James and wife Shirley Marler of Arcadia, Dennis Marler of Fredericktown, Kevin Marler of Ironton, and Kathy Pollock of Parkhills.

Also surviving are one sister, June Mayes of Pilot Knob; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceding Gene in rest were his parents; two grandchildren, Mendy and Joseph (JD); one son-in-law, Dan Pollock; his sisters, Helen, Nelda, Patsy; and his brothers, Paul, Kenneth, Dale, Edward and Donald.

Gene, as everyone knew him, graduated from Ironton High School. He served his nation during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy with two tours in Korea.

Colonel George Robert Tate USAF (Ret.)

George Tate

Colonel George Robert Tate USAF (Ret.) of Englewood, OH, passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. He was 85.

George honorably served his country for 30 years in the United States Air Force as a fighter pilot during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He was a member of the B-58 Hustler Association and the Mach II Club.

George was a Certified Master Diver and has scuba dived all over the world, and was a member of the Divers Alert Network and Sea Turtle Watch.

He was a graduate of the University of Missouri with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.

He is survived by his son, Bob Tate, and girlfriend, Patty Smith, of Englewood, OH; daughter, Colonel Kathryn “Cricket” Tate and her husband, Chief Master Sergeant Daryl Webb (both USAF Ret.) of Red Lion, PA; grandson, Bailey Tate; along with many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Avery and Marjorie (Burton) Tate.

Billy Joe “BJ” Luten, Jr

BJ Luten

Billy Joe “BJ” Luten, Jr, of Des Arc passed away on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at Iron County Medical Center, in Pilot Knob. He was 40.

He was born on June 16, 1978, at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis

He is survived by his mother, Lola Faye (Dean) Luten of Des Arc; and brother, Charles Rutter of Potosi.

Preceding him in death are his father, Billy Joe Luten, Sr.; and half brothers, Cliffton Rutter and Paul Allen Rutter.

He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and friends.

He worked at Fine Labs for many years as an inspector in quality control. In spare time he enjoyed his computer.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018, at 5 p.m., at Ruegg Funeral Home, Piedmont.

Services followed on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at 1 p.m., also at the Piedmont Chapel. Pastor Brent Reed ministered to the family. Music was provided by Debbie Wright, Danielle Sullivan and Bill Bennett.

Diana C. Koenig

Diana C. Koenig died on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018. She was 76.

She was born on Aug. 4, 1942,  the daughter of Roberta Collins (Ringo) Thompson and the late Albert J.  Collins and stepdaughter of the late Wilburn A. Thompson.

Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Koenig Sr.; children, Pamela L. Koenig, Theresa L. (Anthony) Hegger and Charles R. (Kristin) Koenig Jr.; grandchildren, Samantha S. and Alexander J. Hegger and Charles R. III, Hunter M., Jessica A. and Elizabeth D. Koenig; sisters, Albert J. (Kathi) Collins Jr., Mary (Jim) Collins Stricklin, Dennis M. (Terri) Collins, Peter S. (Karen) Thompson and the late Ann (Tom survives) Collins Thomas, Ellen (George survives) Collins Rogers and Douglas A. Thompson; nieces, great-nieces, cousin and cherished friends.

Diana was a retired director of Human Resources at Anheuser-Busch Employees Credit Union. She enjoyed family and friends, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids.

Edith Genira (Pogue) Henry

Edith Henry

Edith Genira (Pogue) Henry of Hudson, IL, passed away on Aug. 29, 2018 at Heritage Health Center in Normal, IL.  She was 83.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1934 in Arcadia to the Rev. Curtis and Mildred (Gibbons) Pogue.

On Oct. 23, 1954, she married Reginald Denton Henry in Roselle. He preceded her in death in 2013.

Their five children survive: Sheryl Henry (Tom) Jenkins of Hudson, IL, Kim (Charles) Smith of Carlock, IL, Renee (Randy) Miller of Hudson, IL, Michel (Christopher) Epps of Deltaville, VA and Buck (Taunia) Henry of West Salem, OH.

Gail Loretta Solomon of Ironton passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. She was 72.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1945 in Searcy, AR to the late George and Louise Stevens Baker. On June 20, 1964, Gail was united in marriage to Henry Solomon, who survives.

Gerald Howard Johnson

Gerald Howard Johnson

Gerald Howard Johnson of Annapolis passed away on Aug. 17, 2018 in St. Louis. He was 82.

He was born on Nov. 27, 1935 in Annapolis, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin and Irene Risher Johnson, and Tessie Johnson.

On May 4, 1957 he was united in marriage to Gayle Gallaher, who survives.

To this union was born two children, Michael Lynn Johnson and wife Karen, and Cheryl Elaine Casteel and husband Jeff, both of Annapolis.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Helbert and Pete Johnson; two sisters, Mable Jeffreys and Barbara Ann Skaggs; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Irene, his step mother Tessie, and a grandson Michael Christopher Johnson.

Gerald retired as Foreman with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in the Annapolis facility after many years of service.

Walter Lee “Walt” Pruitt

Walter Lee “Walt” Pruitt passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, Aug 2, 2018, surrounded by his wife, Laura, and four children. He was 89.

Walter was the owner /manager of World Finance Company on Big Bend Blvd. for over 50 years and was a proud Korean War veteran.

He loved quail and pheasant hunting with annual trips to Mitchell, SD

His favorite pastimes included watching his dogs hunt and feeding fish at the ponds on the family farm.

He was married to Esther Pruitt for 19 years before her death in 1975. He was married to Laura Pruitt (nee Wisdom) for over 32 years and she survives.

Walter is also survived by his children, LeeAnn Pruitt, Wallis Kay Summers, John (Nan) Pruitt, David (Tracy) Starn; his English Setters, Sue and Sugar; in addition to six grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cousins who were like siblings.
